Holiday Cottage Handbook has been recognised as a business with outstanding growth potential after winning a place on the North Yorkshire Stars pilot project.
HCH was recently invited to join the 12-week programme, which is being delivered by the York & North Yorkshire Growth Hub in partnership with Lifted Ventures, and aims to help start-ups and early-stage businesses prepare, pitch for, and attract angel investment. The programme is funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The first workshop was held in Northallerton on 5 March and delivered by Simon Middleton, Growth Hub Delivery Manager at the York & North Yorkshire Growth Hub, and Lifted Ventures Co-Founders Jordan Dargue and Helen Oldham. Participants focused on cementing their vision, mission, and values, before outlining their customers and competitors. The session ended with each business completing a SOAR analysis, plus envisioning what success would look like for each enterprise.
James Varley, Founder, Holiday Cottage Handbook, said: "We are excited to be part of the North Yorkshire Stars programme, which will help us to fully assess the different funding options available to the business as we aspire to take HCH to the next level. During the first workshop, it was thoroughly enjoyable to meet and hear from other early stage founders and share knowledge and ideas as we develop our businesses. Huge thanks to Simon, Jordan, and Helen for organising such an informative and engaging event. We are really looking forward to future workshops and the opportunity to pitch to suitable angel investors at the end of the programme."
Lifted Ventures will guide participants through the process of making their business investment ready. This will include specialist advice and finishes with an opportunity to pitch to seasoned angel investors. The comprehensive programme covers several key aspects for investment readiness, including business plan development, exploring options for funding, preparing financial projections, legal considerations, support structures, and governance.
Participants will create a winning elevator pitch and their own investor pitch deck. One-to-one coaching sessions will help refine this and prepare for investor meetings.
The overall goals of the project include introducing businesses to local investors, directly preparing them for investment, and boosting angel investment in North Yorkshire.
